______________________________________________

Bird is considered a larger build for his breed, weighting in at 86 LBS and standing at a height of 26 inches. Often from a distance the large dog could be mistaken for a wolf, despite wolves not having lived in Japan for several decades. His ears were often alertly upward, his body secured in a confident stance. He was also accompanied by a pair of dark brown irises, partnered on each side by well-maintained canines. Apparent scars and distinct markings littered his body, including a deep scar across his muzzle, where the fur had been unable to grow back. Overall a sense of capability lingered, a well-trained air about him as he responded with quick reflexes. Across his neck a worn-out chain hung, with a dog tag that read "BIRD." Alongside this identification, a newer quality Omamori. It was hung, carved neatly with a number: xxx-xxx-xxxx

Brief Backstory
______________________________________________

Reared in Germany through a canine program, Bird was the product of a long lineage of working dogs. He was given to the US marine core just a year after his birth and was trained in obedience and eventually much more difficult practices. His first and only handler, a skilled marine Captain, Grant Clark trained alongside him for a rigorous five months. Learning a variety of critical skills that would allow the unit to navigate the front lines of Iraq, which they were soon to be deployed. Scent detection became the most important skills of which Bird would learn. Using it he would seek out land minds, injured comrades, enemies, and stashes of weaponry. He was also put through courses of disarming and taking down people at close range, of which would eventually save lives and leave the dog with many injuries.

When Grant and Bird were deployed to Iraq, it was both an overwhelming and life threatening situation. The unfriendly nature of those rebelling was especially heinous towards the dog. The canine unit managed to adapt to the chaotic life of the frontlines, saving many lives during the various missions they partook in. There were several times in which required experienced canine units to be deployed from a helicopter. With the advanced training of Bird, the task was something he grew accustom to. He sniffed out a total of more than 500 bombs within his career, took down more than 40 individuals at close range, and sniffed out 7 major weapon stashes. However despite all these impressive achievements, his serve of which was supposed to last upwards of twelve years did not last.

After serving two tours in Iraq, Captain Grant Clark was stationed in military base, Torii Station Base, in Okinawa. It was a US base that welcomed Japanese soldiers to train in its ranks. Grant was instructing troops in canine handling, using Bird as an example. The dog had been trained in taking Japanese commands due to the length of their stay, however he had not quite reached proficiency in these commands. Grant had stepped away briefly, receiving a call from a higherup in command, and one Japanese solider, Taro Hayashi had been left in charge of Bird. They were off to the side as Taro began to smoke for a brief moment. During this moment, an older gentlemen who seemed to be in a sort of mental and physical delirium stalked towards the two. He began violently yelling at Taro of which sent Bird on high alert. The aggressive approach was something the dog was all too familiar with, one that had often ended with an enemy solider pinned by him.

Taro called out for him to halt but the man did not stop, and upon trying to assault Taro, Bird reacted with haste without prompt of any command. Bird locked onto the man's left arm, and between the screams of agony the gentlemen procured a sharp unidentifiable object which he slashed across Bird's left eye. The dog let go, whimpering in pain, yet when the man attempted to flee Bird chased after into into the various woods surrounding the base. Taro attempted to recall Bird, however the dog was not trained enough with Japanese commands to obey. Grant was devastated when the news reached him that his partner had disappeared. After several days of searching the permitter and surrounding areas, no progress was made in locating the dog. Unfortunately, three weeks later Grant was scheduled to return home from deployment and it could not be put off. The dog he had spent two tours with was lost, living an unbearable gap in his chest.

The unforeseeable situation ended what would have been a even more successful career as a military dog. Though this was not the end of the life Bird would live. Eventually he was picked up miles away on the coast of Japan, by a transport ship, which brought various goods to Japanese islands. Someone on the ship noticed the identification on the dog's neck and removed it, thinking that if the animal were found it would result in conflict with US troops. In the end, Bird was forced off the ship by some of the laborers, at the island of Karakura Japan. He wandered the streets of the city seeking out Grant, who he was fiercely loyal to. Eventually he found someone with a striking similarity to his handler, a man named Komoshi O'Sullivan. Though Bird knew it was not him, because the scent did not match Grant's, the dog remained by his side, protecting him all the same. Komoshi pieced together some of the dog's past from the dog tag that had been left by the laborers which was engraved with his name. The dog was officially declared dead by the US Marine core and a ceremony was held, attended by Captain Grant Clark and his family. Clark later retired, though he served one final tour, with another canine. While Bird became a protection dog for Komoshi, whom was involved in some dangerous and illegal activity within Karakura. Though signs of the dog's life still appear in the tenseness of his build and his reactivity towards aggressive threats. Tell tale signs of the mental altering of an active war zone.
