Do you think Karakura still feels like a Japanese city? Why, or why not? What do you think could be done to make the city feel more culturally authentic?

oh ABSOLUTELY NOT!
I'm not an expert on Japan.
Not by a far stretch.
but Karakura doesn't feel Japanese.

Karakura still has this Japanese coat of paint. but to me it DOES NOT feels or resemble a Japanese place at all.
It feels more like a kind of junk-drawer dimension where pieces of Japan, American high-school media, and crime drama, and anime, and GTA, and general discord/blockgame roleplay chaos have all been thoroughly blended and mashed together.
so... Karakura kinda relates to Japan like GTA relates to LA or Red Dead relates to the historical West.

It's mostly inspired and exaggerated, and compressed, and reshaped and warped and it works to completely different cultural rules.

If the goal is authentically Japanese SRP..... I think the biggest improvement would be to focus less on adding obviously Japanese objects and more on all the mundane social structures. For example... Schools operate a very distinct way in Japan. Businesses too!
There are neighborhood associations and rules about public transport and local government and seasonal events are done a specific way and Not to mention the ETIQUETTE!
There are so many small expectations of everyday public behavior that Karakura simply completely inverts.

Karakura is a chaotic Western sandbox.
And while I'm literally the guy who purchased 1000+ customs... the solution is likely not adding more japanese coded stuff.
Authenticity would (if aimed at) come from making players and places in this town BEHAVE Japanese.

Erik basically said everything I would. There’s SO MUCH different, especially with the culture. It is not at all close, even despite the label

Plz see ErikFinster’s lovely comment above for context thanks
