How has SRP affected you?

How has SRP affected you're Online time and real life time has it made you feel stressed or has it made you feel like its a safe haven and has a good community i would like to hear how SRP affected all yalls lives for the good and the bad and what you would change about it

I'm not part of SRP anymore. I haven't been on this server in 5 years, and in those brief times I have, it has always been to see how much SRP has changed.

I'm a player that played since 2016-2020, and in that time I have come across many players who all displayed a very similar background. They come online, they have an either lonely or horrible environment (rarely did they have a normal one), and while some characters were extreme as their behaviors, they were generally sweet kids who came online to escape reality. If it wasn't for one of the admin, I wouldn't have gotten the skills that I have today in 3d blockbench modeling, and I don't believe that I'd have the same level of empathy that I do presently without the experience I have on the server.

There is good, as much as there is with bad. During my time, there was a gross level of romanticization of adult content for children present on the server. You would see children as young as 9 who would skin their characters in lingerie, interact with dark-web content (that's all I can say in a pg way), and they'd try to re-inact disturbing assault crimes on one another. I had luckily stayed away from that part of the community but I couldn't keep my friends from it. It also didn't help that at the time, staff was in on it since they were of the same age and fine with the level of grotesque behavior on the server. While it could be argued that it was just regular gang-rp, there is no reason for an IRL 18-year-old to be dressing as adult-characters from an adult show in adult outfits with their 14-year-old friend.

And then in my last year, things finally seemed to calm down. I pursued a lot of creative projects like music that I utilized for my own character, grew popularity from that, utilized my knowledge from classes (senior year of highschool) and used the server to study it even further, practiced finances... There's good and bad to the server.

Do I still want to RP on this server right now? No. The overall monotonous theme of the server is too boring for me. I'm in college, I have a level of expectation that I want from an RP server that this place cannot provide, and the way that RP is not received well in a server that churns 1 sentence emotes.

Even if I've grown from the server and have moved on, I still will admire the creativity that this server and it's community inspires in one another. I always love to see what the player-base creates and the changes in style that occur over the years.


EDIT: I came to browse the SRP forums to see how it has changed and it's organization. LOL
