What position are you applying for (Maiden or Priest)?
I'm applying to become a Priest!
What is your motivation for applying?
Ever since I began playing SRP, about 8 or 9 months ago. I've always had a passion to explore more and more roleplay scenarios, situations, and factions.
My motivation is to fuel that passion, and by joining the Shrine faction, especially with Kai since he is such a developed character. The depression, the dead end and the visit. I can do so.
Another thing is that I want to be a memorable and active member in the SchoolRP community.
As much as I know how much of a great responsibility the Shrine faction really is, I feel as if I would fit well and be able to take that responsibility.
I'm also always looking to enhance my roleplaying skills and make myself more fond of it. I believe that SchoolRP is all about the roleplay, and is what I'm looking for, which is another reason why I applied.
While making this application, I've also gotten really fond of Shintoism, especially after I got accepted to the Saiky family on SRP.
I'm motivated to learn much more about Shintoism, and Shrine would give me an amazing chance to do so.
What do you currently know about Shintoism? Are you willing to learn more about it?
I'm not an expert in Shinto. I find it really fascinating. I'm interested in world mythologies and belief systems and Shinto is one of the ones that I really like. Here's what I know far. I'm looking forward to learning more about it.
Shinto is the belief system of Japan, engraved with deep respect for nature and the spiritual forces within it, known as Kami. Shintoism isn't like most religions, it has no single founder, no holy scripture, and no strict set of rules, it is passed down through ritual, tradition and practice. At its core, Shinto is about maintaining harmony between humans and the world around them, through purification, offerings and gratitude.
"Way of the gods"
The name Shinto means "way of the gods". It's a part of Japanese culture and doesn't have a single founder. It started from customs and respect for nature.
"Kami"
Kami are the spiritual forces in Shinto. They're not exactly gods. They can be in rivers, mountains, storms, animals or even objects. Amaterasu, the sun goddess is one of the well-known kami.
"Matsuri"
Something I really look forward to learning more about are the festivals.
Matsuri are festivals that celebrate cycles, community life and kami. They have a lot of music. Are, on the streets. They celebrate births, harvests, new years and local guardian kami.

Character Full Name:
Kai M. Yenson-Shiki
⊹₊˚‧︵‿₊୨ᰔ୧₊‿︵‧˚₊⊹
⊹₊˚‧︵‿₊୨ᰔ୧₊‿︵‧˚₊⊹
Kai stands at 7 feet tall. Big, in every sense of the word. His skin is dark, his build heavy like a wall, and his black hair sits in a tight, short afro. His diamond-shaped head was one unmatched with, and marked forever by the deep scar over his missing left eye. A huge tattoo stretches across his chest and stomach. You might catch him with clean, formal clothes.
Character Title:
Placed his hands on both legs that were already crossed, sucking in his lips before answering.
"Any male title works for me. A simple sir or mister will suffice."
A small smile appeared on his face, first out of many in this interview.
Character Age:
Leaned forwards slightly, giving a quick nod. His gaze never left the interviewer, the smile was still there.
"I am Twenty seven years old."
He said, ending his sentence off with another nod.
Character Marital Status:
Looked quite disturbed by the question, could be because of his relationship history.
"I'm single currently, I don't plan on changing that anytime soon.."
He simply said, his expression unreadable. His voice was a little shaky, definitely a hard topic for him.
Character Nationality:
His expression returned back to being soft, his voice returning to normal.
"I am African American, I was born and raised in the United States. Though I do have a small trace of Japanese from my grandfather."
He stiffened up slightly after the mention of his grandfather, moving around in his seat. He then loosened up, he managing to keep his composure.
Degree/Certifications (If applicable):
He looked a little more excited about this question, a small warm smile appeared on his face. He could go on for hours about this but - he kept it short.
"A Bachelors degree in Culinary Arts, very passionate about cooking."
His smile was still there, like he said, very passionate.

Backstory
The beginning.
Kai M. Yenson-Shiki, an African American man, with partial Japanese heritage.
He was born on the 31st of August, 2004. It all began in Chicago, parkway gardens homes. Kai was born at a birthing center near his home, it is unknown where exactly.
Heritage.
Kai's family is an interesting one.
Kai's father is a half Muslim and half Japanese man, his name is Abdul Minyang. The Japanese heritage came from his grandfather, Shizuwa Minyang, he will be spoken about later.
The Muslim heritage came from his grandmother, Yifat Minyang.
Even though it goes against the Muslim religion, they decided that Kai is going to be Muslim.
His African American heritage came from his mother, Tina Minyang, no need to go too deep in that.
Kai's grandfather is a ruthless man, he was like his father, he controlled Kai and his dad.
Shizuwa is an ex-Yakuza member, a Japanese gang organization. Shizuwa was a higher up in a clan in a small island called "Karakura" in Japan.
The beginning of the crime life.
As said, Kai's grandfather is an ex gang member, which had fueled him to join a gang in the United States too.
Shizuwa became a gang member in the gang "Bloodhounds" a notorious gang known for its kill counts and ruthless members.
Shizuwa decided to try and convince Kai to join him, and at just fifteen, Kai became a Bloodhound.
At fifteen, Kai took part in a gang war near his apartment building, he shot and killed 2 men, and got shot in the liver. But he managed to survive.
Just a few months later, he got caught "lacking" and was shot in his right arm two times, and managed to survive.
At sixteen, his grandfather forced him to stab a man in the heart.
At seventeen, Kai got in a school fight with another boy in the bathroom. He ended up stabbing the boy and killing him. It landed in him getting expelled and thrown in jail.
He was released for good behavior at 18, but was thrown again for a month after drunk-driving.
After going through all that, Kai had enough. He ran away to Japan, where his grandfather used to rule. Karakura.
He thought he would have a more peaceful life, but oh was he wrong.
Life in Karakura. (2025-present day)
As said before, at 18, Kai moved to Karakura to try and achieve a more peaceful life.
His first experience in Karakura is an interesting one. In his first month, Kai went to his newly rented apartment in complex M when he encountered a small group. He decided to provoke a girl then and it broke into a fight, Kai got knocked out pretty quickly.
Kai was fuming, he hit up the black market and somehow got a metal baseball bat and a ballistic mask in his hands.
He caught the girl walking one day and he kidnapped her, bringing her to a remote area and breaking her leg. Huge mistake.
Her boyfriend quickly got the word that his girlfriend's leg was broken by Kai, so he took matters to his own hands.
One late night, the boyfriend caught Kai at the beach strolling. He jumped Kai and with a few accomplices, sliced Kai's eye.
Kai was left without an eye to this day.
Ascension.
After the tragedy and a short life of crime, Kai managed to graduate with a Bachelors degree in culinary arts.
It was then where he began job hunting, he applied to a position as a teacher but to no avail. Even a restaurant denied him. This was all due to his terrible criminal record, he couldn't do anything about it.
Kai fell into a deep depression, smoking, alcohol, you name it. A few months that flew by with Kai's depression, a friend of his suggested him to go to the shrine, it went against all of his beliefs, he was strictly forbiden from entering shrines due to his current religion, but he had nothing else to lose, so he payed a visit. The shrine workers gave Kai a breif tour, nothing too special, the works. But it was there when he fell in love with it, he found his zen, the yang to his ying. He scrambled to the public library, dropping his Muslim religion completely, grinding his heart out to learn more and more about shintoism. He even applied to the priest position at the shrine.
Though Kai knew he might have a low chance due to his pervious altercations, he has hope. Kai believes in second chances, and believes he has a chance, even though it is very low.

How does your character act around shrine grounds? How do they interact with guests and other staff?
To keep it short, Kai is very respectful.
In all honestly, Kai acts the most respectful he can, especially to other staff and guests.
Kai considers his co-workers as family, other brothers and sisters. To him family means the most out of everything, so it comes naturally that he will refer to them with kindess.
It is no different to guests, no matter the situation with them, Kai will always maintain his composure and won't lash out at them. Even when they pop a vein on his forehead, somehow maintaining a warm smile.
Kai wasn't always like this, but he has changed his ways for the religion and the shrine.
You see a guest jumping around the roofs of the building and overall disrespecting shrine grounds, how would your character handle it?
At first, he will be very calm at it, going all aggressive would be as disrespecting as what the guest is doing. He would simply try and say "Heya! I noticed you jumping over there, it's quite disrespectful and I'll have to ask you - Please get down from the roofs, it is very disrespectful." with a low, calm and gentle voice. If they go on, it's no biggie for him! The plastered smile staying on his face as he asks them again, same question.
By now he expected them to be down, but if they are not, it still isn't the end of the world. Kai once again will ask them to get down, but inside he was slowly boiling.
Kai would also make sure to let his higher-ups know about the incident, maybe get them blacklisted if they are a repeating offender.
Why does your character want to become a shrine maiden/priest? What do they wish to achieve?
As seen in the backstory, Kai basically fell in love with Shintoism after one visit to the shrine. Kai dropped his previous religion to study it in hopes of becoming a priest, all from passion and love.
Kai's main motivation to become a priest is to change the person he is, from the violent, unresponsible man he was, to a more patient, kind and calm man. This ties to what he wants to achieve from it.
Kai hopes to achieve complete ascension, not in a narcissistic god-like way, Kai just wants to become the best version of him, pretty much the opposite of what he was before.
What are the core values of your character?
Kai's core values are kindness, patience and family.
None of these things came easy to Kai, as he was much more violent. Kind he was not, patient he definitely was not. For years Kai went through a lot of bad decisions growing up which made him very different from what he is now. Then Kai found Shintoism, and it basically changed everything for him.
The principal of harmony - living in balance with others and the world around you is what made his kindness into something whole and genuine, not forced.
Patience came naturally when he learned that Kami is in everything and everyone, which made it harder for Kai to write people off.
Family came to Kai naturally, everywhere he went family surrounded him. Both in good and bad.
Shintoism made the rough parts of his life smoother, It gave him something to really believe in, even more than his own religion.
To Kai, all the people, around him. The staff, the guests, even strangers. Are worth treating with kindness and warmth. He thinks that everyone deserves to be treated with respect and kindess, even the people who are trying to test his patience.
