The following are modern Karakuran historical events and facts, recorded and written by Justice Dr Katsuhito T’sien Saiky-Akihito, in an effort to provide transparency into modern history. All names that have not been established previously and that have been newly introduced have not been confirmed by other historians. Katsuhito Akihito presents himself as an accurate source of information, and questioning his facts is an act of treason against his sources, heritage, and lineage. This is an accurate depiction following the Herrington colonisation and ruling of Karakura Island.

Following the Trial (August 2021 - September 2021)
The Herrington v Popovich trial is considered the final straw in Herrington's monopoly over Karakura, as Myriad falls and the family members vanish from the island, along with their patriarchs. The trial led to the mayor, Suruga Sengoku, to resign, as the first of Karakura’s non-Herrington mayors. Although this historian would like to believe the Sengoku was a mere Herrington puppet, and now that the family has fallen, there is no use for the mayor to remain.Alex ‘Ironside’ Koji was declared and appointed by the former mayor as Karakura’s mayor in a speech that was addressed to the city. This appointment brings a new age to Karakura, which is dubbed ‘The Koji Monopoly’
Koji Monopoly (September 2021 - April 2022)
Sitting in Hokuseibu Karakura is Alex Koji, the mayor of Karakura. The events that transpire in the following months are not necessarily loud, but are discrete–yet not minor. On the 5th of September, Karakura was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8, burying the Motokawa C**** and its surrounding facilities, and damaging Karakura High School and Community College. The Motokawa Gardens, however, remained intact, as predicted by traditional accounts and folklore.
The Soda v. KPD court case was Karakura’s second major criminal case following the opening of Karakura’s Courts. Then-Vice-Principal Aoi Soda sued the Karakura Police Department for falsely arresting Karakura Community College football players Christopher Beck and Sage Soda, the latter being the vice-principal’s own son, with the case being heard on the 24th of October. The verdict cleared Beck of all charges, but reduced Soda’s charge to a minor fine. Rumours of Hospital Director Aster Saiky’s involvement grew only after the man had mysteriously vanished from the island.
On the 19th of December, 2021, a snowstorm hit Karakura, blocking many buildings’ entrances, flooding roads, and essentially burying houses. Swimming pools, already closed to the public, were now ‘snow’ pools that you can stand on. Karakura High School and Community College had become a disastrous battlefield between the humans and the water molecules. It took law enforcement, a dozen of the school’s staff members, and a plethora of students to finally dig themselves out from the school’s gates and entrances. According to news reporter Tomochin Taikan, the storm was so intense that students climbed ‘mountains of snow in panic’ to escape from a most unfortunate fate.
Karakura Public Library opened its doors a day after the storm, on the 20th of December, in Karakura’s Business Park. The library is considered an important landmark in Karakura. This landmark was opened by Karakuran Governor Bao Koji.
The escape of Metagaru Tachitsu is one of Karakura’s most shocking events to date, as Tachitsu’s escape also resulted in detective Malachi Moralez’s kidnapping. Metagaru’s escape was orchestrated on the 29th of December as the convict was being escorted from the Karakura Police Department in Kaigan to the hospital in the Business Park.
On the 9th of January, 2022, the famous Karakura Community College Spartan Fraternity and Sorority household was burnt down to the ground due to a pipe malfunction in the ground-floor kitchen. A few students sustained injuries, with Cheerleader Zara Zabroda ending up in a comatose state. Following the fire, the ‘Sorofrat’ was replaced by team houses, and thus began the Karakura Avenue era of the KHSCC teams. Seikatsu district was dubbed as “Teams’ District” as a result of the abundance of Karakura High and College’s team residents.
A case was submitted to the Karakura Courts by Karakura Community College students Kyosuke Hisakawa and Hana Yagi against the abnormal behaviour of Governor Bao Koji toward his children, specifically toward Saeko Koji, a friend of the two college students. Detective Ernesto Martinez soon took over the case after the two college students dropped out. Ernesto Martinez had a grudge against the Kojis, according to sources and historians, as the family was rumoured to be under the protection of the Kishi Division, despite being a mayoral family.
The Koji v. Martinez Trial resulted in the sacking of Governor Bao Koji from Karakura’s town hall, as well as his arrest for the charges of ‘battery’ and ‘disorderly conduct’.
On the 16th of January, days following Metagaru’s escape and Moralez’s kidnapping, the Karakura Police Department raided the turf located under Apartment Block C in Kagoshima in an attempt to save the hostage. Malachi Morales was shortly saved after the walls of the turf were breached using explosives, though the police department lost two of its forces: Police Detective Constable Andre Sakurako and Police Sergeant Paola Kodama. Tachitsu was not caught; however, several members of the Kishi Division were reported to have sustained injuries and/or died.
Karakura lost its commissioner, Reizo Tokushima, at the hands of Metagaru Tachitsu, following a bloody stand-off between the two on the 30th of January. Tachitsu had also died in the gunfire, after attempting to escape Karakura via the KPD’s helicopter, only to crash-land the vehicle in front of the police department. Both Karakura and Kishi lost their leaders in this brawl. Following the death of Tokushima, Yonio Schwartz was instituted as Commissioner of the KPD.
Bear sightings increased in February, and as such, citizens were advised to avoid Ochiba Forest unless necessary, and to take designated pathways and tracks when visiting Shinsei Seinaru Monastery. The former Herrington Estate was put up for auction and sold to the highest bidder, the Montokus, who unfortunately did not reside on the estate for long; it was then transferred to the Furukawas. A new apartment block was added after a chunk of the old Herrington Estate was acquired by the government and built on the new plot of land.
According to a news report published on the 28th of March, 2022, by then-head reporter Kazuo DeLuca, Alex Koji was rumoured to be in a relationship with the former mayor, Suruga Sengoku. It was also revealed in this news report that Alex Koji considers himself a ‘family man’, a claim later deemed ironic.
Glory to the Akihito (April 2022 - August 2022)
‘Mike’ Akihito was instituted as Mayor of Karakura on the 7th of April, 2022, following the resignation of former mayor Alex Koji, as well as Bao Koji’s release from prison with bail from an anonymous individual.Days following Mayor Akihito’s appointment, a student was found dead with the word ‘AKIHITO’ engraved in it, a likely ploy to invoke fear into individuals due to the Akihito stigma that revolved around Karakura. Further evidence supports this claim, including an interview conducted by Umeda Kame with Mayor Akihito himself. Many in Karakura found the Akihito family to be one of nepotism, comparable to the former Herringtons, as the leadership of Karakura General Hospital and Shinsei Seinaru Monastery was under the Akihito family. Mike Akihito denied these allegations, claiming they were mere coincidences.
The legal system in Karakakura, under Mayor Akihito, had been revised by the Karakura government to allow citizens an easier path to a fair trial should they wish for one. One of the first cases is a trial that ended with an execution, as Shingeru Obasan, a student at Karakura High, was charged with the murder of Police Detective Sofia Sakurako.
A blackout occurred on the 22nd of May, which resulted in many riots across the city, though most prominently in front of the Karakura Police Department, with criminals using the dark situation to their advantage to spread chaos and wreak havoc. This blackout and its aftermath were addressed by Mayor Akihito and Governor Malachi Moralez.
On the 29th of May, the northern undergrounds of Karakura High School and Community College shook from an explosion. With law enforcement, emergency services, and government officials in a hurry, the scene was investigated, and Mayor Akihito, alongside his two children, was injured, alongside Sawa Taigyko. Former mayor Alex Koji’s DNA was also found on the scene, though no reports can confirm his location. Sawa Taigyko later broke into the Spartan Cheer Team’s house in the following days, and revealed that she murdered the former mayor, exploding him. To this day, however, Alex Koji’s status has remained missing. It is unknown whether Sawa Taigyko’s words were the truth among most masses, but this historian believes they are true.
The Karakura Government announced its first upcoming election for a new position in the town hall, the Deputy Mayor, with five candidates: Annabelle Sturm, Kiyoko Akai, Malachi Moralez, Eiko Kusanagi, and Vanessa Balenciaga on the 10th of June. All five governors ran strong campaigns, each showcasing their talents, making promises and changes to citizens, and providing entertainment in their campaigns, such as speeches, football matches, and banquets. Kiyoko Akai's appearance marks the beginning of the Akai family's presence in Karakura.
To add to the Akihito allegations, Hiroto Akihito was appointed Commissioner of the Karakura Police Department following the resignation of Yonio Schwarz.
Another change was brought to the legal system on the 7th of July, making it much easier for citizens to file in court cases and appeal before the Karakuran Court.
On the 10th of July, election results revealed the appointment and swearing-in of Kiyko Akai as Deputy-Mayor of Karakura, after election polls were closed on the 9th of July, a day prior.
The Toge Tunnel in Itsbyoshi, between the Saiky and Akihito estates respectively, was refurbished per the orders of the deputy-mayor, who herself was present for the cleanup of the former crime-riddled hotspot. From this point on in history, Karakura was no longer ruled by a single family but instead ruled by various factions that may or may not oppose each other.
Karakura continued to be in a somewhat peaceful scene until the end of Mike Akihito’s mayoral reign.
The First Akai Dynasty (August 2022 - March 2023)
Mike Akihito stepped down as Mayor of Karakura, and Deputy-Mayor Kiyoko Akai was appointed in his place on the 14th of August. This marks the beginning of the First Akai Dynasty, in which the Akai family held its first mayoral position in Karakura, with Kiyoko Akai as mayor. Annabell Sturm, the first female police captain of Karakura and governor, was appointed as Kiyoko’s deputy. On the 9th of September, 2022, Junpei Saiky, Karakura’s eldest citizen, passed away in the Saiky Estate. A funeral was held in Shinsei Seinaru with many high-level attendants, such as the Akihito family, the mayor, and many other government officials, especially the KPD, to mourn alongside the Saiky family.
The month of October saw, like every October, a bunch of hauntings across the city. Infamously known for causing mischief, many citizens claim to have been visited by the ‘Things’, and others claim that ghosts that replicate them have been appearing everywhere. Though, despite investigations, nothing has been confirmed.
On the 29th of October, as a final straw, Karakura High School and Community College’s annual Halloween ball ‘Fright Night’ was abruptly ended due to the stabbing of 9 individuals, all of whom were hospitalised. Official reports claim that the convict is unclear, and that many accounts offer conflicting claims and notions. It is, however, a fact that all nine victims claimed to have been stabbed by a bloody schoolgirl with a scissors. Numerous accusations and condemning were directed toward the school, but none were addressed.
On November 2nd, a series of events marked the end of the Akihito era, beginning with a helicopter crashing onto Kaigan Beach, rumoured to have been shot by a canon of the Akihito clan in Kagoshima. From the helicopter and subsequently other entrances to Karakura, an infamous gang, known as the Yamaguchi-gumi, marched into the city. Many of the island's forces, including the KPD and other criminal gangs, rose to protect and/or use the situation to their advantage, but all lost in the race to the Akihito Clan, who, according to sources, fought against Yamaguchi-gumi. The situation escalated to the power plant and, in the end, resulted in an unforeseen explosion that killed Mike Akihito and Sawa Taigyko. It is unclear how the explosion occurred in the first place. Mike Akihito was announced dead at Karakura Hospital following the transportation of his body there.
Having just left Mike Akihito’s funeral on the 6th of November, Hiroto Akihito was chased by members of the Karakura Police Department to the power plant after being confronted by Mayor Akai and Detective Valentinus Vasylenko Saiky to answer for his corruption, per evidenced provided by Malachi Moralez, Governor of Karakura. Hiroto was detained by Detective Pavel Popovich as his family watched from the side. Hiroto Akihito was tried and sentenced to a lifetime in prison following the verdict of his crimes.
Yonio Schwarz was reappointed as Commissioner of the Karakura Police Department following the removal and arrest of former commissioner Hiroto Akihito.
On the 3rd of December, 2022, Karakura Town Hall was the site of a fire whose cause remains unknown. Many government workers and citizens evacuated just in time, though they suffered from severe smoke inhalation. Despite past behaviour and evidence of mischief and troublemaking, Sage Soda and Koda Masuo, both of whom were present in the town hall, were not investigated. None found it peculiar except for this author, who, to this day, believes those two students held a role behind this particular incident. Following the fire, the town hall was rebuilt as a newly constructed, modern building.
On the same day as the Town Hall incident, Yasua’s Auction Shop reopened, one of the very first buildings in the government’s series of Business Park changes to be revamped. A post office was also added under apartment block B, next to the KPD.
January posed a peaceful era in Karakura, with many events being more party-based than affecting the whole island. Complex K was also constructed, per the series of changes to the Business Park as mentioned. To assist with solving Karakura’s housing crisis, Kaya Minako’s Property LTD was opened under apartment complex D.
International serial killer, Guang Feng, was located in Karakura, and to ensure public safety, the government issued an island-wide curfew as well as a lockdown in certain areas on the 15th of February. The days following Guang Feng’s sighting, numerous incidents occurred in Karakura after the man had stolen a gun from a corrupt cadet, Loki Laurent, with several civilians and Deputy Mayor Annabell Sturm being shot. Thankfully, none of the victims were killed. On the 25th of February, the mass murderer was finally caught in the power plant and was convicted for life. A few days later, Loki Laurent was also arrested and sent to prison for life.
Hurricane Luau struck Karakura on the 5th of March as the island was celebrating the spring season on Kaigan beach. Many signature buildings and institutions were affected by the disaster, including the hospital, school, and even the estates. However, the area most affected was the Karakura Police Department, as it is the closest to the beach.
Following the hurricane, many government officials expressed their sympathy to all those affected by the storm. The Imperial Household of Yamamoto sent their daughter, Princess Hiyori, second cousin to the Emperor, to console the affected population. However, during her speech at the Tree of Eden in Shinboshi’s Shopping District, she was kidnapped by two criminals, but was saved momentarily. She was never seen on the island again.
On the 26th of March, Kiyoko Akai stepped down from her position as mayor of Karakura, and Annabell Sturm took her position, becoming Mayor Sturm.
Sturm’s Term (April 2023 - July 2023)
Immediately into Mayor Sturm’s term, Deputy Mayor elections were held with candidates being Akiro Hatake, Riko Derevo, Malachi Moralez, and Yui Tsu.On the 16th of April, Karakura was hit by another earthquake, this time targeting the eastern side, specifically Itsbyoshi and Kaigan. The earthquake hit the Saiky Estate, the ancestral home and residence of the famous Saiky family, and the Akihito Zen Garden, open gardens in Itsbyoshi that are managed by the Akihito family. Taking advantage of the Saiky’s loss, Mayor Sturm ordered the Saiky Family to move into the Akihito Zen Garden and build a new apartment complex in their former grounds. Both the Akihito and Saiky families lost a major chunk of their lands as a result of this disaster.
Yui Tsu was appointed Deputy Mayor of Karakura following her election victory.
On May 8th, a fourth train station was opened in Karakura in the new apartment complex, L, that was the former location of the Saiky Estate. Compared to the other three train stations, this train station was considered the most affluent.
On the 25th of May, Hospital Director Rokku Heddo and his colleague, Dr Ide Zaiaku, crashed into the newly constructed Saiky Estate with an ambulance. To this day, no one knows what exactly caused this crash.
The Second Akai Dynasty (July 2023 - April 2024)
Mayor Annabell Sturm stepped down three months into her short term in favour of a newcomer, Ezri Akai, another member of the famous Akai family. Yui Tsu remained as the deputy mayor.Following an increase in casualties due to delayed emergency response, Hospital Director Rokku Heddo established a new paramedic department at the hospital. Paramedics have been a staple part of Karakura General Hospital ever since.
Over several days in August, Karakura General Hospital and the surrounding buildings in the Business Park were reconstructed. All private land owned by individuals or companies was reacquired by the government and repurposed for housing. This event marked the end of Karakura’s housing crisis, as Minako Property Agency has reported that ever since, Karakura has always had vacant living quarters for individuals to move into.
On the 18th of September, the former Furukawa Estate, due to the absence of the Furukawa family, was transformed into a new zen garden, named the Jinsei Zen Garden, and was put under the management of Shinsei Seinaru Monastery.
Mayor Akai’s term was one of peace, especially after the mayor announced the closing of the powerplant, which had been infested with crime. Many of the major events that occurred between September and January had little effect on Karakura.
The Karakura Police Department building was revamped and refurbished to accommodate the architectural changes in Karakura.
On the 25th of February 2024, Police Commissioner Ernesto Martinez was stabbed in the Shopping District by a masked, unnamed suspect. He was taken to Karakura General Hospital for medical treatment. His attacker has remained unidentified. Ernesto Martinez continued to be accused of corruption, though no evidence was presented to the public in a manner that would allow the public to fully discern.
Sturm's Next Term (April 2024 - August 2025)
Annabell Sturm was sworn in again as Mayor of Karakura in April 2024, for yet another short term, as she had before. In June of 2024, the Ochiba Forest implemented a Wildlife Preservation zone, or a sanctuary, for bears, foxes, and other wildlife. It was also rumoured among citizens that the forest had become more mystical than ever before. Alongside the sanctuary, Karakura Church and Graveyard were also revamped to accommodate the changing architecture.
Karakura continued to live in another era of peace, with no corruptions or disruptions affecting the government.
The Third Akai Dynasty (August 2024 - December 2025)
On the 23rd of August, Mayor Sturm announced that she is stepping down from her position, and that the relative of the former mayor, Mayor Ami Akai, will be taking on the role and stepping into her shoes in the Shinboshi Tree of Eden.Similar to their predecessor and relative, Mayor Ami Akai’s term was also one of peace and prosperity, for Karakura continued to silently grow. The mayor had ordered the construction of many parks across the city as part of the government's new campaign to ‘greenify’ Karakura, with parks being constructed next to Zikani Station.
October 2024 was also a hotspot for haunting events in the city, with many reporting even more extreme incidents than in previous years.
On the 15th of May, the Karakura Police Department witnessed more riots, though nothing could compare to those after the Herrington Trial of 2021. Many Karakura High and College students were seen throwing items at the building's windows, causing havoc and encouraging mischief in the city.
Ami Akai’s term had been so silent in terms of political disruption that the transition to the next mayor, Nicole Brown, had gone unannounced. Before Nicole Brown’s entrance to society, her family had suddenly marked Karakura as their new ‘patriarchs’, comparing themselves to that of the Akihito, Akai, and even Herrington. But unlike the last three mentioned, the Brown family saw themselves as nothing more than regular people who did not understand Japanese society or culture very well.
Nicole Brown’s term was short-lived as she was blamed for the destruction of Shinboshi’s Shopping District on the 2nd of July. She attempted to stop the construction workers from destroying the building, as they had arrived a week earlier, ahead of schedule, and had not warned the residents of the gigantic apartment complex F that their homes would soon be reduced to rubble. The construction crew, however, ignored her and continued working. Ami Akai shortly returned to her position after Nicole Brown fled her office.
Shinboshi’s Shopping District was renamed to the Karakura Shotengai, or Shinboshi Shotengai, depending on who you ask. The district was revamped to adapt to Karakura’s changing and modern architectural style. To accommodate the rich, mainly the Ogonshoku and Monogatarihito, three plots of land beside the Shotengai were opened to welcome new, affluent families to build manors to their liking. The Heddo, Baek, and Nakazumi Households were constructed and were considered newer, more recent wealth than those residing in Itsbyoshi.
Lexy Sparks, former captain of Karakura’s Bobcat Cheer Team, now engaged to Iyashi Akihito, appeared in Karakura Plaza with certain voodoo magic that she used against people. It was unclear whether this incident had occurred, as many reports claim the girl was using witchcraft, words similar to those of Alexandra Reznik, but no reports were confirmed.
Sister of Lexy Sparks, Lola Sparks, was selected as captain of her sister’s team. Due to many dramas circulating over the internet, the Karakura Government stepped in to assist the cheerleader, posting on Onrain the hashtag #WESTANDWITHLOLA.
A feud arose between Vice-Principal Kaito Akiyama and Justice Dr Katsuhito Saiky-Akihito over the status of the memorial erected in front of Karakura High and College in remembrance of Taketatsu High, which a majority of the student populace moved into in 2018.
On the 22nd of November, Justice Dr Katsuhito Saiky-Akihito was kidnapped from the Town Hall by a group of masked individuals and taken to the construction site nearby. The group trashed the town hall, and many government workers returned to the building to find it in shambles. Moments following the judge’s kidnapping, Mayor Ami Akai went to save him, finding herself in a brawl with the masked group. The mayor was abandoned by the group and was found later by the KPD, then sent to the hospital alongside her worker. Conspiracy theories rose due to the fact that the mayor was capable of fighting the gang, which led to individuals questioning her background and past. Due to the mayor’s incapacity to carry out her mayoral duties, the kidnapped judge’s uncle, Iwao Akihito, former Chancellor of Karakura Community College, was appointed as Mayor of Karakura.
So now, dear reader, we pray to the Lord for another prosperous reign of Akihito.
OOC INFORMATION AND NOTES:
This thread is intended to ensure player history reservations, with accounts written and made canon. All mentioned in this thread is canon, not because official community members have said it, but because it has occurred ICly and should therefore be taken into account. Only retconned events may be removed from what is already written.
Players are welcome to suggest events to me or to my character, Katsuhito, that can be added, provided they can provide sufficient proof that cannot be metagamed and was obtained ICly. Events must at least affect a majority or a large chunk of the population of Karakura to be deemed eligible for 'Modern History of Karakura'. Note that simply because it has not been written here, it does not mean it has not happened or is not important. All characters in Karakura are equal in terms of 'main character'. Indeed, there are characters that have been suggested several times and players who have had multiple of their characters mentioned, but in that case, following Herrington Rule, it was done by taking the opportunity.
If you wish to have your name down in Karakuran History, I implore you to take the opportunities to progress events and characters. Opportunities will be given, and can be easily found, as the staff team and the community teams are offering many events, and more events to come following specific discussions.
