During a work-shift a student starts cursing at you for being pathetic, how does your character react?:
I would stay calm and professional, using my training in child development, psychology, and communications to de-escalate the situation on my own first, speaking softly, validating their feelings, setting a gentle boundary, and offering to listen, before quietly alerting an administrator if it continues or worsens.
Hypothetical Scenario: Student Cursing Outburst:
A frustrated year 12 storms to the front desk and snaps, “You’re so pathetic, just a tiny desk jockey who does nothing useful.”
I stay calm, take a slow breath, and respond softly but firmly:
“Hi [Name]. I can see you’re really upset. That hurts to hear, and we don’t speak to each other that way here. I’m listening—what’s going on?”
“Why would I talk to a loser like you?”
I subtly press the intercom to alert an admin while keeping eye contact and offering validation in order to keep the situation from escalating: “Let’s take a breath together. Want to talk about what happened?”
He hesitates, volume drops. Admin arrives quickly and takes him to talk privately. I note the incident, smile at waiting students to reset the vibe, and move on.
You notice two students are physically fighting in the hallway, – multiple punches have been thrown – how does your character react?
From the front office window, I see two students exchanging multiple punches in the hallway.
I remain calm and prioritize safety; I do not attempt to physically intervene.
1. Immediately call for assistance:
“Fight in the main hallway outside the front office—physical punches, help needed now.”
2. Assertively speak from the doorway:
“Stop! Break it up now! Security is on the way—cease!”
3. Stay positioned at the doorway to observe details for the report and inform bystanders:
“Step back, put phones away—give some space.”
Admin and security arrive promptly. I provide a quick handoff: “Two students fighting, no weapons, near room 101”, then step aside.
Next steps: Write an incident report, check in later, and offer quiet support if needed at the office.
My role: Call for help fast, use voice to de-escalate from a safe spot, keep the front office steady. We bend, we don’t break.
Another school employee is clearly acting inappropriately, doing something very dangerous on the job, how does your character react?:
When I observe a staff member—such as a custodian or teacher aide—engaging in clearly unsafe or inappropriate behavior during school hours, like operating heavy equipment recklessly near students, appearing intoxicated, or acting aggressively or sexually suggestively toward a student or colleague in front of others, my response is immediate, calm, and follows protocol. I rely on my resilience, knowledge of child development, and communication skills to report clearly and professionally.
1. Prioritize safety - If students are in immediate danger (e.g., machinery near children), I step outside the office and loudly announce: "Stop that right now, everyone back up! This is unsafe.” I don’t physically intervene but alert others to create witnesses and buy time.
2. Discreetly inform leadership - I return to my desk and quickly call or intercom the principal or assistant principal: "This is Mika from the front office. I observed [brief description: e.g., ‘Mr. X operating the floor buffer dangerously near students, or ‘Staff member appears impaired and is speaking inappropriately to a student’. Students are present and at risk. Please send admin/security immediately.”
3. Document quietly - While waiting for help, I jot down quick notes: time, exact location, what I saw/heard, any students or witnesses involved. No gossip or confrontation at this stage.
4. Follow proper procedures - When the admin arrives, I calmly provide a factual report, then step back.
5. After action - I don’t discuss what happened with other staff unless asked by the admin. If the situation is resolved, I will later check in privately with affected students to reassure them that “adults are handling it.” If it affects me personally, I process privately at home with family support, reminding myself that my role is to protect students and the school community.
My approach: Act quickly yet safely, report facts promptly, and avoid confrontation or escalation alone. Student safety and school integrity always come first—always. We adapt without breaking.
When in the employee break room, how does your character act?
Hypothetical Scenario: In the Employee Break Room:
Mika quietly enters with her bento, warmly greets colleagues by name, “Hi, how’s your day?”, listens with empathy if someone vents, offers gentle validation, shares homemade fruit if she has any, and keeps the atmosphere light—avoiding gossip or dominating conversations.
She tidies her area, remains present, and departs with a small wave: “See you out there.”
Warm, supportive, and unobtrusive, she’s the steady heart of the room. We bend without breaking.
Provide us with at least three detailed /me's of your character whilst on your chosen role:
/me sits neatly behind the front desk, her small frame barely peeking over the high counter; she adjusts her glasses with a gentle smile as the next student approaches, voice soft and warm, "Good morning—how can I help you today?"
/me glances up from the attendance log at the sound of raised voices in the hallway, immediately calls for an admin while keeping her expression calm; she leans forward slightly and calls out in a firm but steady tone, "Hey—everyone step back please. Admin's on the way, let's keep it safe."
/me quietly stands on tiptoes to reach the top shelf for a stack of visitor badges, then turns back to the parent at the counter with a polite nod "Here you are—please sign in and I'll let [Name] know you're here. Would you like some water while you wait?" her movements precise and unhurried, radiating quiet competence.

Backstory
Mika Shimura was born in 1988 as the middle child and eldest daughter of the enduring Shimura family, whose roots stretch back over eight generations in the quiet, river-bordered suburb of Karakura Town. Growing up in the sprawling multi-generational home—where the scent of incense from the family butsudan mingled with the aroma of her grandmother Chiyo's inari-zushi—Mika absorbed the family's unspoken creed of resilience and harmony from an early age. The Shimuras had weathered war losses, post-war scarcity, typhoons that twice flooded their ancestral land, and personal heartbreaks, yet they always bent without breaking, planting new trees in Chiyo's garden after every storm or sorrow as a quiet act of renewal. Mika, small in stature at just 4'0" due to a rare genetic condition that affected her growth, learned early that strength came not from size but from stubborn loyalty, warmth, and the ability to hold people together.
From childhood, Mika loved school with a fierce, almost reverent passion. She thrived in the structured rhythm of classrooms, the chatter of hallways, and the sense of community that mirrored her home life. While other kids dreamed of far-off adventures, Mika found magic in the everyday routines: helping teachers organize supplies, greeting visitors at school events, or simply being the steady presence who listened when someone was upset. She often volunteered in the school office during her teen years, filing papers, answering phones, and watching how the receptionists kept the entire building running smoothly behind the scenes. That environment felt like home—busy, people-filled, and quietly essential.
After high school, Mika pursued her lifelong dream of working in a school setting by enrolling in college. She majored in Child Development, drawn to understanding how young minds grow, learn, and navigate emotions in safe, supportive spaces. To round out her skills for the interpersonal demands of a school front office, she added minors in Psychology to better grasp behavior, stress, and family dynamics, and in Communications to master clear, calm interactions—whether de-escalating a worried parent on the phone or coordinating with staff. Her studies deepened her natural empathy and organizational instincts, and she graduated with honors, eager to bring that knowledge back into the familiar world of schools.
Life, however, took detours. Mika married young, had four children, and for a time built a life outside the family home. But the marriage ended in a painful divorce eight years ago, leaving her to prioritize her children's stability. She returned to the Shimura household in Karakura Town, reclaiming space in the old tatami rooms and filling them once more with the sounds of growing kids, shared meals, and evening stories from Chiyo. Raising her four children—now in middle and high school—became her full-time focus, but the pull toward schools never faded.
In recent years, as her children have become more independent, Mika has begun pursuing her original calling more actively. She started working toward a position as a school receptionist, a role that perfectly aligns with everything she has always loved: being the warm first face families see, managing schedules and appointments with precision, handling communications thoughtfully, supporting children's daily lives from the front lines, and contributing to the harmony of an entire school community. Her background in child development gives her insight into student needs, her psychology minor helps her read situations and offer quiet support, and her communications training ensures she handles everything from routine inquiries to tense moments with grace.
At 38, Mika remains the emotional heart of the Shimura family—organizing check-ups, sorting medications for Chiyo, making sure everyone eats well, and quietly mediating when needed. Yet she carries her own quiet determination: to build a professional life in the school environment she has adored since childhood, turning her lifelong affinity for learning spaces into a steady, meaningful career. In a town like Karakura, where ordinary lives hold extraordinary endurance, Mika embodies the Shimura spirit—small in frame but unbreakable in resolve, always choosing connection, care, and the beauty of staying rooted together.
Motivation for Joining KHS (Character perspective):
I’ve always cherished school—the routines, community, and its role in fostering growth. Growing up in Karakura Town at the Shimura family home, surrounded by stories of resilience and harmony, I knew I wanted to be part of a supportive environment like that.
After studying Child Development with minors in Psychology and Communications, life led me to marriage, four children, and a divorce, which brought me back to the family house. Raising my kids through their school years reminded me how vital the front office is: being the calm initial contact, assisting families, and maintaining stability.
When I saw the receptionist position open at KHS, right here in my hometown, it seemed like the perfect opportunity. I hope to bring my warmth, organization, and empathy to these familiar hallways. At 38, this is my chance to give back: to support students and staff, stay connected to the community, and embody the Shimura spirit every day—We bend, we do not break.
Why should you be accepted over the other applicants?:
I believe I stand out because I bring more than just clerical skills to the front office at Karakura High School—I bring a deep, lived connection to this community and a steady, empathetic presence that transforms a busy reception area into a genuine support hub.
While other candidates may simply check resume boxes, I offer heart, local knowledge, specialized training, and a steadfast Shimura dedication to adapt and persevere, regardless of what the day brings.
I am prepared to begin tomorrow and help make the front office an extension of the caring community Karakura already exemplifies. Thank you for your time and consideration. I would be honored to serve KHS.
