What's the title of your suggestion?: Revert Furniture Model of Wax Sculpture "Moriel Maeng"

What's your suggestion?:
Context:

Recent unexpected changes have changed the furniture item Wax Sculpture "Moriel Maeng", and without warning, the item underwent a complete redesign (see image).

I feel compelled to be a voice for myself and the community: I've heard nothing but large amounts of disapproval and disagreement from the community regarding the new changes to the furniture item. Messages and screenshots were sent from a large range of people expressing their dissatisfaction with the new look.

The sentiment is overwhelmingly near unanimous: Wax Sculpture "Moriel Maeng" should be reverted back to its original model.

Argument 1: What's wrong with a joke?

It was never inherently disruptive to roleplay. The humor comes from it being, yes, depicting a player model, because in-universe it's a wax replica of the character. With SchoolRP being hosted on a Minecraft server, a 'hyper-realistic' depiction of a character should mimic how it looks in-game: a player model. And that was the fun of it: It looked like 'a guy'. And it was very clear that it was the case. It was a joke that a strong portion of the playerbase enjoyed.

The custom had existed in its original state for over 2 years. (Since roughly March 29, 2024.)

I'm sure most players who've managed to be able to use the item can testify to some instances of joy throughout it all: The humorous positioning of a player model on properties, or finding interactions through casual roleplay.

It begs the question: Why wasn't it a problem when I initially purchased it and for over two years existed, but now is?

And furthermore, why shouldn't this type of humor be allowed in SchoolRP?

Argument 2: Character Integrity

With my own character's name (Moriel Maeng) being personally attached to the item itself, I feel saddened by the new interpretation. Considering the general appearance, boiling down to even the eye color and even hair shape not matching, I find my character being actively disparaged by the new appearance of the custom.

With respect to the vast amount of roleplay scenarios that indicated Moriel Maeng looked exactly like the wax sculpture, it forces the implication that this new look should look like him. When in truth, this new appearance is not accurate at all.

Argument 3: Similar Customs
There are similar customs (plushies, furniture dolls) that depict player models in a similar fashion, yet remain the same. It gives the impression that the change was only enforced because of how accessible it is now.

After spending money to support the server and for the custom for it to be depicted in its original model, it's frankly upsetting.

As someone who donated the custom to the shop faction, with the sole intent of extending the availability so more people can enjoy the humor of it, I feel almost like I am being punished for doing the gesture. As this change was presumably able to be enforced because it now technically belongs to the shop faction.

This is not in any way to criticize the time and effort of the modelers. But I feel obligated to express the concerns of myself and the community.

How will this benefit the server and community?:
Restores the initial model and amends the concerns expressed above.

SO RIGHT, HE IS SOOO RIGHT!!!

What if I make a custom, will it be ruined too?

This is a BIG problem, I don't even want to update my resource pack. It haunts my SCREEN!!!

Massive +1 from me. It's frankly ridiculous that your custom, that was specifically made to represent your character, was changed without even so much as a heads-up.

This change should be reverted. The whole point of this item is gone now. It was not a problem for years, why is it suddenly a problem now?

Yeah man this makes me terrified that MY customs will be changed without my asking. I fully agree with my good pal yozb and hope we can all come to an agreement that the Moriel statue needs to be reverted.

I remember all the good times i've had with that custom, but since the change it's sad to see practically EVERYONE taking it down.

real sob emoji, but +1

SUPER +1 from me, honestly as soon as i saw it i took down my moriel maeng wall. the fact this is someones custom too that was changed without asking or anything is crazy. i hope an agreement does come as mentioned but man :( sad to see everyone taking them down.

i agree, this was a very unneeded change, did the phone update do this to? i have no idea but it no longer looks like the character Moriel Maeng at all.. it needs to be changed back

+1 for sure! Bring back the old wax statue!!!! Should've at least had the courtesy to get input from the original owner of the custom!

+1
It feels wrong to change a custom without permission of someone who bought it. It's real money to buy a custom so it'd be only right that it doesn't change.

+1 while i do feel for whatever modeler took the time and effort to retexture the model, i dont think that kind of thing should have been done without consulting the owner of the custom. i dont think that the previous model didnt match the 'style' of the server either considering it was quite literally a copypaste of moriels skin

BRING OG MORIEL MAENG BACK! i loved how real and life-like the OG model resembled the ACTUAL moriel maeng, and ive enjoyed so much the funny, humorous, and sometimes, even ABSURD rp interactions that come as a result of it. heck, moriel's statue has been used as a victim in rivalry situations!
please bring OG moriel back, he looked so much more surreal, and horrifying that way
+1 :(

+1 !! Completely changing a custom item that was paid for is insane and makes me worried for other people's customs! If it needed to be changed, it should've at least been communicated by staff to the parties involved

+1 I personally had one of these as a training dummy for my verified business which now no longer looks the same. This is a big issue you shouldn't be changing our customs without our approval when it is our money spent on said items.

+1 bring back old moriel plis!! i feel like no change should have been made since it's supposed to look like Moriel. Also should've probably brought it up to yozb if it's his custom that you lot are altering.

+1

The fact this was changed to begin with in the midst of so many other issues currently plaguing the server and with such an enormous modeller backlog is not only an appalling decision and a clear transgression against the terms of service at the time of purchase but also a completely unnecessary and questionable decision considering the state of the server.

(I'll not cover the new look of the wax figure in my response. I'll just look at it from a customers perspective:)

case for the staff:

Since the Moriel Maeng Wax Figure was added to Henki-Do’s assortment last year, it is technically now a public/shop faction furniture item rather than a private custom, which means the original owner loses ownership and copy-request access.

There is currently no clear rule saying that media team modelers must ask before changing a public cosmetic, so one could reasonably argue, upholding the “server house style” is the priority here.

case for the community:

then again, the guidelines currently do not disclaim that the items identity or design may be altered after they are being made available at shops or made public.

So I can recognize where the peoples reactions are coming from:
- the items identity of that furniture was tied very directly to Moriel Maeng and to the original joke and model.
- People did expect/rely on the visual to not change after 2 years of implementation.
- While the item is considered public/shop faction now, one could argue that it would have been nice to consult yozb (or give notice before applying changes to such a community-wide recognizable custom).
- it sets a public precedent for changing formerly private customs that are widely implemented in builds around the server
