What's the title of your suggestion?: Revert Furniture Model of Wax Sculpture "Moriel Maeng"
What's your suggestion?:
Context:
Recent unexpected changes have changed the furniture item Wax Sculpture "Moriel Maeng", and without warning, the item underwent a complete redesign (see image).
I feel compelled to be a voice for myself and the community: I've heard nothing but large amounts of disapproval and disagreement from the community regarding the new changes to the furniture item. Messages and screenshots were sent from a large range of people expressing their dissatisfaction with the new look.
The sentiment is overwhelmingly near unanimous: Wax Sculpture "Moriel Maeng" should be reverted back to its original model.
Argument 1: What's wrong with a joke?
It was never inherently disruptive to roleplay. The humor comes from it being, yes, depicting a player model, because in-universe it's a wax replica of the character. With SchoolRP being hosted on a Minecraft server, a 'hyper-realistic' depiction of a character should mimic how it looks in-game: a player model. And that was the fun of it: It looked like 'a guy'. And it was very clear that it was the case. It was a joke that a strong portion of the playerbase enjoyed.
The custom had existed in its original state for over 2 years. (Since roughly March 29, 2024.)
I'm sure most players who've managed to be able to use the item can testify to some instances of joy throughout it all: The humorous positioning of a player model on properties, or finding interactions through casual roleplay.
It begs the question: Why wasn't it a problem when I initially purchased it and for over two years existed, but now is?
And furthermore, why shouldn't this type of humor be allowed in SchoolRP?
Argument 2: Character Integrity
With my own character's name (Moriel Maeng) being personally attached to the item itself, I feel saddened by the new interpretation. Considering the general appearance, boiling down to even the eye color and even hair shape not matching, I find my character being actively disparaged by the new appearance of the custom.
With respect to the vast amount of roleplay scenarios that indicated Moriel Maeng looked exactly like the wax sculpture, it forces the implication that this new look should look like him. When in truth, this new appearance is not accurate at all.
Argument 3: Similar Customs
There are similar customs (plushies, furniture dolls) that depict player models in a similar fashion, yet remain the same. It gives the impression that the change was only enforced because of how accessible it is now.
After spending money to support the server and for the custom for it to be depicted in its original model, it's frankly upsetting.
As someone who donated the custom to the shop faction, with the sole intent of extending the availability so more people can enjoy the humor of it, I feel almost like I am being punished for doing the gesture. As this change was presumably able to be enforced because it now technically belongs to the shop faction.
This is not in any way to criticize the time and effort of the modelers. But I feel obligated to express the concerns of myself and the community.
How will this benefit the server and community?:
Restores the initial model and amends the concerns expressed above.
