I don't know about others but constantly being pinged for tryouts can be a bother especially if you're someone who isn't interested in that aspect of the server and the pings can be annoying, and clotting for discord.

Creating a tryout role that can be accessed through the channels and roles thingy ( i have no clue what its called is it a channel ? god knows ) similar to how BMD ping is managed, may be useful and more organisational.

How will this benefit the server and community?:
Allows for people to be checking pings more instead of just marking it as read and will allow for people to have a more customised experience.

alternatively until there is a role, you can just mute the channel and suppress all tags from that discord

Feel like this was suggested before, might be wrong though, and it got denied by staff and just said to mute the channel if u don’t wanna get pinged

you still get the lil number and like i said what if i want other pings , maybe a friend msging or if youre in an academic faction what if you mark an important announcement on read ?

I have removed the tryout channel from the channel list on my end
I have muted it
I still get notifications

I found that you can prevent receiving Sports Faction by blacklisting it

I have the channel muted and everything, I have never touched the sports faction and likely never will yet I still get constant pings about tryouts.

They could maybe make it so that whenever you join the Academics server, you get the Tryouts role automatically, which you can later get rid of by reacting to a message similarly to how High School and College roles. I heard one of the main concerns about making this change is that fewer people would show up to tryouts if they made it so users had to manually add themselves to the try-out mention group.
