Character Summary:
Meika Nina Haas, born on February 12th in Hamburg, Germany, was thrust into a more responsible role at a young age. Her father and mother were mostly absent, leaving her to take care of her younger sisters, Nat and Nixie, as well as her mysterious brother. Despite her love for her siblings, she resented her parents for their lack of presence, and their neglect caused her to develop deep anxiety surrounding building close relationships. She has a dream of becoming a clothing designer and harbors a profound passion for the ocean and its creatures.
Appearance:Meika's eyes are soft and often the source of her insecurity. She has a natural dark brown hair color but opts for a unique light blue hue to distinguish herself from her family. Personality:
Meika is an outgoing and personable individual who tends to attract friends wherever she goes, but struggles to connect with most people beyond surface-level interaction. She often finds herself leaving large crowds or intense situations, preferring the calm and quiet over the chaos. Despite her friendliness, she can come across as a touch mysterious, keeping certain areas of her residence off-limits and keeping her inner thoughts to herself. She is good at assessing when to be serious or not. However, her difficulty communicating her desires often leads to her swallowing her pride and agreeing to situations she would prefer to avoid.
In her childhood, Meika was a rather shy individual and often kept to herself. However, once she moved her sisters out of a less accommodating environment, she knew that she needed to be more well-spoken on their behalf. Her introverted personality shattered as her sisters struggled to adapt and establish new friendships, and she knew that she had to step up and offer her assistance. Meika does not handle screaming or conflict well, often reacting impulsively when yelled at. She seeks to avoid any confrontational scenarios and will quickly back down when faced with adversity.

Meika and she will go to great lengths to ensure Miyako's happiness and safety. In her eyes,

Without hesitation, Meika took her in and the pair grew close rather quickly.
Their connection was almost instantaneous and the bond that they quickly established was quite
strong and enduring. Elsie's presence in Meika's life was unexpected but a delight,
and she was eager to continue their blossoming friendship.

As it turns out, Louie had passed away shortly after they met. Perhaps their limited amount
of time together was a missed opportunity and potential for a deeper bond,

Meika cherishes her sister Nat but struggles with the feeling that her sacrifices are often overlooked.
She feels a sense of jealousy towards Nat as people tend to gravitate towards her,
but still watches out for her and cares deeply. Despite the difficulties that arise at times, Meika adores
Nat and will always do her best to look out for her, no matter how much is sacrificed for their happiness.
This love extends throughout the rest of her family as well, even if Meika sometimes feels overshadowed by her sister.
Unfortunately, they got in a pretty huge argument before
Nat had been found to have passed away.

The Beginning[HUGE WIP ARGRGRGGR]
Meika was born in Hamburg on the 12th of February, her given name being Nina Haas. She has a twin sister, Nat, who was born a few minutes after her and a younger sister named Nixie, born a year thereafter. Additionally, their youngest sibling, Milo, was born to a different mother a few months after Nixie's arrival. Meika's mother was affectionate and doting when she was younger and even gave her the endearing nickname of "Ohrenqualle," meaning "moon jellyfish" in German which became a beloved animal to her.
Childhood
(Elementary + Beginning Junior High)
Meika's childhood was filled with stress due to her parents' prolonged absences. The emotional repercussions of their neglect led to emotional struggles in all of the children, but because of Meika's status as the eldest, she felt a sense of responsibility to protect her siblings. The lack of empathy displayed by her parents meant that the children often struggled to afford proper nourishment, often limiting them to bread and cereal for long stretches of time. Meika's maturity rose in response to these challenges. Meika grew serious and protective towards her siblings while disregarding any disrespect aimed at her.
Meika was a reserved child with little to say. She was slow to trust and struggled to open up to others, causing teachers to contact her parents due to her lack of participation in classes. She was difficult to read and often kept to herself, making her difficult to engage and interact with. Additionally, her reserved attitude often caused her to feel left out or ignored by her peers. Despite her outgoing nature and sociable upbringing, she grew reclusive and withdrawn at school as she dealt with the stress of her absent parents.
Because Meika was a very reserved person in her youth, she wasn't making many friends and struggled to trust her peers. She was often seen as "weird" or "aggressive" by her classmates for her protectiveness towards her siblings. The majority of her friends were her sisters' which made her feel like an outsider in most social circles. At the age of 12, she discovered her brother's existence by overhearing her parents arguing. She tracked him down on social media and connected with him but they weren't particularly close. She still felt a responsibility to act as a mature older sibling for him.
Meika harbored love for her mother, despite her absence. She had come to resent her just as she did their father for his infidelity and was unable to comprehend her mother's willingness to stay with him. She felt abandoned and betrayed by her mom for leaving her and resolved to get as far from her as possible. Even the same country was too close for comfort. Although she still cared for her, two feelings could exist simultaneously. Both love and contempt for her mother were present in Meika and she sought to escape the memories that her presence brought forth.
Changing
(Junior High)
Meika's existence had been centered around her family, with her siblings taking center stage. In pursuit of a plan to move away from her parents, she began doing research on potential schools and options to take her sisters with her. She delved into studying Japanese, but struggled with pronunciation and found it difficult to achieve fluency, on top of this she began teaching Nixie as well. Meika juggled her studies and work while saving money to support herself and her sisters. This entire endeavor occurred behind her parents' backs without their knowledge or concern. She eventually contacted Nat's friend, Otto Meyers, who kindly agreed to assist her.
Meika was able to achieve her goal of moving to Karakura, thanks to Otto's assistance. However, one significant obstacle arose - Nat had not yet learned adequate Japanese. This made Meika nervous, as moving would be quite difficult if only she and her other sister knew the language. Meika put pressure on Nat to learn and assisted her in developing these skills. This created some tension in their sibling relationship, but this soon passed. Everything had worked out and the sisters were completely ready to move. Meika reached out to her brother and finally shared the news of his existence with her sisters.
Nat's initial reaction was one of anger as a result of Meika's withholding of information about her brother's existence. She soon overcame this feeling once she realized that Meika, despite her maturity and competence, was only 16. Knowing this, Nat became understanding of the situation and quickly got over her initial negative reaction. Her understanding of Meika's youth allowed her to move forward from the situation with confidence in their bond and love for each other.
Free
Meika felt nervous and uneasy about leaving her current life, even though her parents weren't often around. She couldn't determine whether her situation was abuse or neglect and often wondered if she was being overly-dramatic about it all. Milo, her brother, was compassionate and supportive. She felt more comfortable confiding in him than in her sisters and kept things from her sisters as to keep them from worrying. Milo likely would've offered them a place to stay with his mother if she could afford it. All in all, Meika felt safer and more comfortable in opening up to Milo.
With gathered courage and the support of Otto, Milo, and even Milo's mother, Meika was finally able to escape the confines of her life in Hamburg, departing via train and plane with her sisters. She never looked back and embraced a world of new possibilities, excitement, and potential.
A Fresh Start
The train journey proved to be a challenge. Nixie struggled with motion sickness and Nat's Japanese speaking abilities remained a work-in-progress. Despite this, the sisters continued to practice during their trip, although Nat found it easier to understand spoken Japanese than to reply in the language herself. Meika utilized her bilingual skills as much as she could to assist her sisters, translating things for Nat in German, while helping her with her Japanese around other students. This would prove to be difficult for Meika, given her past troubles with socializing and forming connections with people.
Meika made a decision during the second phase of their journey, using that time to practice her Japanese skills with a person seated nearby. The guy turned out to be Irish and spoke Japanese as a second language, which made her more comfortable with sharing her goals and seeking his assistance. Both she and the boy grew a mutual liking for each other and spent the duration of the trip discussing and aiding Nat. This development allowed her to feel a comforting sense of ease and a realization that things were going to be better in the future.
