Karakura having more of a Japan vibe

ethln

Level 21
What's your Minecraft Username?: ethln
What's the title of your suggestion?: Karakura having more of a Japan vibe

What's your suggestion?:
I mean.. The title pretty much explain what my suggestion is, but I'll explain further here. I'm pretty much suggesting that Karakura should feel more like Japan than what we have currently. Why you ask? I mean . . Karakura is infact in JAPAN! I know there is a lore reason why Karakura is more westernized but right now currently, Karakura really feels bland in my opinion, it really doesn't have a whole aesthetic which sucks. The only "Japan" aesthetic/vibe we have in the whole Karakura is literally the Shrine...

How will this benefit the server and community?:
It'll probably bring more people into the server idk man.

As in the stereotypical Japanese village, or a glowing city that makes Las Vegas look like an urban hell? Either would be a waste of time to make, as the current city is perfectly fine, and adding a new map would take a lot of time to implement, and adjust to.

don't need a whole NEW map, there could be some added additions though or changes

Very good, I think you are absolutely right, but usually when this kind of suggestion is made, you need to provide a plan that is at least dozens of pages long.

I can give you an example like you are running for election, you said: The government is extremely corrupt and cannot continue like this. Vote for me and fix it.
Voters will ask you: Yeah, we know that, but... how will you fix it?

you right, most people just look at this and be like "-1 no new map!!" or w/e, ngl i got this from a old suggestion from 5 years ago (crazy)
Great, you quoted the previous advice, I just read it carefully, but I still think you should build on it.

And as the owner said:
Enforcing Japanese characters and culture among new players would be extremely difficult and perhaps even impossible, seeing as the majority of our players are western (and that the server's language is English.)
Making such a big change is extremely difficult.
If you think you can help the server make such a big change, you should write a larger, more macro proposal, including how you should change the existing culture on the server, including various factions and even crimes, and how to overcome the obstacles of current players (as the majority of our players are western), and how to make it clearer for new players (the server's language is English but map in Japan, We speak English but our culture is Japanese.)

Or... you can just join the lore team...

don't need japanese characters, just need the map have some changes for it to feel more like japan than w/e we got now (shrug emoji)

A lot of these map change suggestions are from those that have fully experienced the map and are familiar with it. When you get used to these builds, you sometimes miss the vast amount of Japanese culture that this map already has. New players join all the time and are surveyed on things like this, and a lot of the time, their favourite thing is the map and aesthetic. You should take a step back and see the changes made to the map already this year too though. There have been many changes made to the map this year and the texture pack to give it that Japanese city feel. For example, the vending machines retexture, the Family Mart build, the School Walls, even the little updates of alleyways, etc.

If you take a step back and look around, you'll see many Japanese styled gates, little alleyways full of life, cherry blossom tree's, ramen bars, the japanese parks, the estates etc. Whilst, there could be more, maybe the suggestions could be about suggesting specific places you want to see in future, look at what you specifically think could be changed or added to help with this aesthetic.

-1.

You're asking to remodel weeks and months spent building , for a modern city which the builders have done amazing on. If you have specific suggestions suggest that rather than something this vague and broad.

Karakura is influenced by Japan, yes, however it is also a city that's branched off of Japan and doesn't fully need to look like how Japan would as it modernizes on its own. There are plenty of things that reference and are influenced by Japanese culture/builds and I don't believe that SRP has strayed too far from that.

This is not something the server staff can really do, this type of change would require a MASSIVE shift in player perspective, nearly unattainable without monitoring all characters, players and their actions or introducing a whitelist to verify knowledge pertaining to Japanese ideals, both of which will likely not happen any time soon.

The server has been westernised, it will likely remain that way, and altering buildings will not change this.

This looks good on paper and I've heard a lot of people say that Karakura isn't Japanese enough. However, it's not as easy as changing a building or two

Imagine this; 3 days ago, you wanted to bake a cake, so you started with the base. You made it 3 levels tall, and you gave it a strawberry frosting with cherries ontop and loop-shaped decorations around the sides.

However, today you find out that your cake won't just be for you and your friends. It'll be served in a wedding to hundreds of people. Originally, you made the cake according to what you liked and without too much thought put into what others might think, but as time went on, you realized that it wasn't just you who was gonna enjoy that cake, but rather, an entire community. By translating this to SRP, the OG builders didn't know SRP would become this popular. Thus, we can't blame them for Karakura not looking like it should

I avoided talking about user-friendliness since that's whole different can of worms, but my point is; It's too late to want an overnight solution to this. As far as I'm concerned, they're trying to update old buildings to be more fitting, but if you want a complete map change, then you'll need to join the rally of "new map?" chanters in OOC
