I’ve been playing since the end of November ‘22, though I’ve had some breaks in-between. The past year and a half however I’ve been rather active again, starting with my lawyer Hansel Desmond.
Through my lawyer character I also started building on a family, the Desmond family, which has grown quite a bit since last year having several grown-up characters and, as always, too many children to count.
During all this I’ve also been a manager for Pinkumo, building experience and the workings from a shop on the inside. My 12th grader Lilith Birch is the manager-character there.
A couple of months ago I left the government faction with Hansel and on my alt account I have joined the teacher faction. Suffice to say I know the server rather well.
Do you acknowledge that if you are inactive you will be demoted?:
Yes, I do.

Shop Information
What shop/category are you applying for?:
I find “Other” to be by far the best fit.
Why do you want to become a Shopkeeper?:
Ever since joining the server, I’ve always had my eye on the different factions and which ones I could join. I’ve been playing for a while now and have been through several factions, even being in the Government faction for over a year. Still, throughout that time, my motivation to run and build something of my own never left me.
Last year, I applied to become Shopkeeper for the spot that Pinkumo eventually got. I decided not to mourn what was lost but to see it as an opportunity. I reached out to Pinkumo’s Shopkeeper and decided to help her with what I was already good at: managing people and Discord servers.
I helped set up the Discord server and became a manager responsible for HR at Pinkumo.
This means that I’ve got extensive experience with recruitment and screening of people, as well as following up on performance and other people-related issues.
Of course I’ve also helped out on other levels by looking into the SRP Shop Panel and doing stock management when asked.
Suffice to say I’ve since learnt a lot. During the past few months, I’ve also built a Discord bot for Pinkumo to help with quota logging and decided to build further upon that experience in preparation for my own shop.
At some point during the past year, I also played with the idea of launching a verified business, although I moved away from that after a while. Working on the idea nevertheless helped me develop the concept and identity of Noshi further.
During all this time, I’ve been quietly preparing for the next time a shop opened that could fit my aesthetic and concept, finishing the last parts of that preparation quite recently (only last month!).
I was therefore very pleased to see that shop applications had opened again. I am trying anew, bigger, better, stronger and faster, to make my own contribution to the SRP world. Something I’m convinced I’m very qualified for. But I’m really motivated to jump into the Shopkeeper faction and provide some extra life to the server through the stories of Noshi the fox and the items Odd and his grandmother collected during their travels.
What do you plan to do with your shop, and what makes it unique?:
Noshi is an “Other” category shop built around a rotating collection system. Rather than selling the same stock during every single opening, the shop’s catalogue rotates between openings. There are three types of opening: Day, Night and Dusk.
Daytime openings will feature brighter and “warmer” collections: sun-themed jewellery, umbrellas, a cosy hat, an Egyptian-inspired toy khopesh and similar items. Meanwhile, darker and moodier items, such as a cursed-doll plushie or a poisonous-mushroom hat, will be sold during Night openings. Finally, there is the Dusk opening, which will be the final opening of the month and will feature the entire collection!
The first opening of the month will be counted as a Day opening, the second will be a Night opening, and so on and so forth. The final scheduled opening of the month will become Dusk, during which both collections are available.
A Day opening will mean that a specific floor of the shop opens. It will be a pretty place, feeling sunny, warm and open. A Night opening will open up another shop floor with a much darker aesthetic, resembling a dark, lantern-lit forest. Each opening will therefore focus on a specific set of items. During Dusk, both floors will open at the same time, allowing customers to explore the entire collection.
I’ve included a conceptual picture of what could be the front entrance, already giving away the duality of darkness and light. The current image primarily represents the darker Night side, while the eventual entrance would also contain warmer elements representing Day and the transition into Dusk.
The three types of opening reflect these three themes.
Day is connected to Nana Noshi’s journeys and finding yourself through new experiences.
Night draws more heavily from the original Noshi story, representing grief and introspection.
Dusk is the one opening where the full depth of the Noshi-philosophy and catalogue can be explored all at once.
What will you sell in your shop?:
Noshi sells dark- and light-themed gifts, furniture, accessories and curiosities, such as jewellery, necklaces, bracelets, hats, umbrellas, bags, purses, toys and decorative objects. Alongside these there will be a collection of heritage furniture and homeware, each item carrying the folklore of the culture it hails from such as a Norwegian ‘rosemaling chest’ or a Japanese ‘kamidana’ shelf. Some pieces are beautiful while others are rather strange.
What matters is that Odd knows where they came from and what their worth was to others. Who knows, even a resin cast of a dinosaur skeleton might one day turn up!
The core concept of the catalogue is celebrating uniqueness and self-worth, in whichever way people might find it. Some people might like a lucky Irish shamrock necklace, while others might find strength in a purse inspired by the ancient Greek goddess Athena. Others still might prefer more “modern” stories and products inspired by, for example, Steven Universe or The Lord of the Rings who might also inspire valour.
I have made some examples of catalogue items below, some of which already exist as, currently still private, customs.

How many employees do you plan to have?:
I plan on having 17 employees, spread over various roles. Having a job at Noshi has to mean something to the player, rather than earning a quick buck for their character. It has to be a part of their regular schedule, so I won’t bloat the employee roster. I’d rather not have people fight for a shift. This brings me to this roster:
- 2 Managers (Stock and Design)
- 10 Cashiers
- 5 Doorwardens (Security + showcasing of items)
Employees will be decided before the shift and some will be put on standby, those on standby will also receive a limited sum if they aren’t called to work. They don’t have to be in the shop while being standby, of course.
The total amount of required employees per shift will change, if it is a shop opening during the so called “dead hours” it makes little sense to have a full staffing while at busier times it would make little sense to attempt to run the shop with only 2 cashiers.
As every single member of staff puts in effort to make a visit to the store an amazing experience, I would strive to make payment equal among all members and significant enough to warrant their time.
Employee costumes have already been created. They will be able to choose between two outfits, as long as they wear the Noshi-tail! They can be seen below.

Extra
Practical organisation
I’ve built an entire working website, as well as a working Discord-bot for Noshi. Both are integrated with one another.
This will make sure that the employees of the store will know in advance when there will be a shift and the reminders for coming shifts will be automated. Some images of them can be found here. Quota tracking will also be done through the bot.
Furthermore I’d like to have at least 1 of each type of opening during the different timezones of the players throughout the month. I’ve often found that I hardly ever see certain shops open during my (rather extensive) hours, which is sad. Through thoughtful organisation I’d like to make sure these openings happen, if time shows this wouldn’t work, we’ll pivot to an online-order system.
The website is already up and running as is the Discord-bot. There is also a layout-plan available for the shop floor. So while the build is being completed we could recruit and I’m convinced that Noshi could be operational as soon as the build’s been completed.

Layout of the shop
| First floor | The first floor would, obviously, be the floor where people enter the shop. There would be a stage in the center of the floor for some events such as the Seasonal Night Market explained below. More importantly there would be two stairs going up, one darker themed-stairs on the left and a lighter-themed staircase on the right. Only the respective Day or Night staircase would grant access to said floor. Of course during a Dusk-opening, every floor would be opened up. |
| Second floor | The second floor, would be the night-opening floor. This would mean it would be dark themed where light is scarcer. Though of course I’d take into account the safety and security of the visitors, I wouldn’t want a lawsuit on my hands! This floor would have its own cashiers area and stock, as not to muddle the night- and day stocks. The items available in this cashier area would only hold the night-related items. |
| Third floor | After darkness comes light! And that is exactly the philosophy of the day-opening’s floor being at the top. Entering the floor through some trees right by the entrance, a visitor would clearly walk into a bright surrounding. Flowers, sunshine, flowery meadows and a generally bright and warm atmosphere would welcome them up here. Like with the night-opening floor, this too would have its own cashier area and own stock. The items available in this cashier area would only hold the day-related items. |
| Fourth floor | This would be a staff-only area with a dressing, meeting and staff-lounge for relaxation. It would be themed like the inside of a cosy home. Noshi would after all be a place where employees should feel home and make some of their own memories, too. Even if it’s only with a drink and a nibble after a shift, together with some colleagues. Odd Vinter is seen here, admiring the front of the closed down shop in Bergen. He wishes to take some of the darker aesthetic and the clear duality between day and night portrayed in the entrance-gate, along to his store in Karakura. |

Events:
Shopping in Noshi isn’t supposed to be a quick visit for the characters for something practical, though it can certainly be should they wish it so.
Visiting Noshi has to be a visit which lingers, which welcomes people to return. Generally speaking this will happen because of the atmosphere the store breathes, but sometimes there will be a little extra.
| Riddles | All the traveling Noshi (supposedly) does throughout the world tends to razzle its mind so it tends to forget where it’s been or what’s happened. Hidden throughout the store might be a code, or partially broken code which needs deciphering. Maybe it’s a hieroglyphic riddle, or words, or the universal language of maths? Visitors to the shop who help crack the code may gain a special reward! To make it fun some parts of a code might be found during a “Day” opening and some during a ‘Night” opening only. The riddles would change over time (though not every week, it is not feasible) to keep things interesting and mix up the rewards. It could be a discount or even a free item! The rewards would be made clear in advance, not be left up to chance. |
| Seasonal Night Market | During a Seasonal Night Market every customer is encouraged to dress up in one way or the other. Of course everyone is still welcome, but those wishing to engage in the prize-pool have to go a little further. Step outside their comfort zone to notice that they are indeed quite alright as they are! Those who dress up can enter a contest, by pulling a number, during which Noshi itself might appear and pick a winner for the most fun outfit of that evening! Of course Noshi would be played by one of the Doorwardens who dresses up for the occasion. To ensure the atmosphere, all the employees can ditch their usual attire and also dress up (as long as the Noshi-tail is present, of course!). |
| The Lost & Found | A (limited) trade-in event for items from Noshi’s stock. Every item which gets a new owner gets experiences from its environment, where it sits, how it is used, .. But sometimes items are no longer used, no longer loved, sitting in a corner gathering cobwebs. If the items were once bought at Noshi’s, they can be swapped for an item of the same value from the Noshi-catalogue. The items can receive a second life and a second home like this. It’s good for the planet and good for people’s wallet! When the Lost & Found concept works, why not include other stores to participate with their own temporary booth? That way we could invite other stores to also repurpose some of their old and lost items who might otherwise end up in the trash. |

Shopkeeper biography
Name: Odd Vinter
Age: 31
Heritage: Moroccan, Norwegian and Japanese. His mixed background can be difficult for others to pinpoint: his father is Moroccan, while his mother is Norwegian, though her own mother, Odd’s grandmother, was Japanese.
Description:
Odd Vinter isn’t the warmest man, especially around people he doesn’t know. He would probably agree with that himself. He doesn’t waste words and is not interested in idle chatter. New staff might find him rather unnerving. He has a habit of simply appearing, drifting through the store like a ghost.
Yet he knows his store inside and out. Every single item and its story is hidden inside Odd’s mind. He can recite most of those stories by heart, especially those connected to the items he collected while travelling the globe with his grandmother. Those who ask him to recant the same tale twice might hear a difference or two in every retelling.
He doesn’t like seeing the items treated carelessly. He claims it’s simply because of his standards but clearly there is some attachment present to certain items in his collection.

Backstory:
Odd was raised in Norway, though he spent much of his childhood travelling with his grandmother. His Japanese grandmother had left Tsuwano for Norway decades before and opened a shop named Noshi in the city of Bergen. Odd eventually started calling her “Nana Noshi”, after both her story about Noshi and her store.
Nana Noshi hated the dark Norwegian winters, especially around Bergen, one of the wettest and greyest Norwegian cities. This is when she turned to travelling the world with her grandson, Odd.
Together, they crossed the globe. During their travels Nana was always looking for unusual objects and the stories behind them. She was especially interested in things that reminded people of their home or childhood. Odd initially didn’t understand why she cared so much about such objects, as time passed, he gradually began collecting stories of his own. It was on these journeys that Odd learned to appreciate not only his own heritage but also that of countless others.
It was the story of Noshi, the purple-and-white fox, which had been told to Odd since he was a child. His grandmother came from the small mountain town of Tsuwano (津和野) and the Noshi story was a legend that had been passed down through her family. Though Odd was never entirely certain how much of the story she had made up herself.
Nana Noshi died last year at the venerable age of 93. She left the shop to Odd, but without her, it never felt quite the same. Odd rarely talks about her death. Not long afterwards he decided to move the shop to Japan, close to where Nana’s stories had begun.
Odd still isn’t entirely sure what Nana wanted Noshi to become. But to him the shop is a way to preserve her stories and help others find their own role in their stories.
This is the shop that Odd intends to reopen, hopefully, in Karakura.
The story of Noshi
Once, on a moonlit, foggy evening, a woman was lost in the woods near Tsuwano.
After suffering a devastating heartbreak, she had barely slept for nights. She eventually fled into the forest looking for solitude.
Lost in thought, she hardly noticed how late and dark it had become or even how deeply into the forest she had wandered. Eventually, she found a fallen tree and sat down to rest.
She heard the rustling of leaves and the breaking of twigs and looked up. She noticed a small lantern light bobbing up and down between the trees. She stood, wiping away her tears. She then realised that she was rather lost… and saw no other option but to follow the light.
As she walked, however, she noticed something strange. There was no hand carrying the lantern and no person to be found. As she got closer and closer, the lantern light grew bigger and brighter. She brushed away some bushes and leaves and saw a beautiful purple-and-white fox. The fox laid on a rock with the lantern beside it. Slowly, the fox sat up, tilting its head towards the woman and sitting still.
Without a single word or action from the woman, the fox suddenly stood and walked towards her. It bowed its head in front of her before circling around her and pawing gently at her, as if asking her to sit down.
Uncertain why, she sat down beside the fox. It didn’t appear frightened or even aggressive and for the moment she preferred its company to being alone
After sitting beside her for a moment, the fox stood again, bowed its head before her and turned away. It pointed its nose in one direction as the lantern lifted off the ground and began floating away.
She looked at the fox, which nudged her in the direction of the lantern light. She petted the creature, sighed with relief and thanked it before following the light between the trees.
The fox walked silently beside her as they followed the lantern. After what seemed like hours of walking, they reached the edge of the forest. The lantern dropped to he ground, the light fading. The woman turned to thank the fox, to her surprise it was nowhere to be seen. That night she slept well for the first time in many. When she woke up she felt better, stronger. Her journey through the forest had helped her find what she had lost, herself.
When she later told the story, she described a fox with purple fur and white markings. In even later retellings the fox was called Noshi. It is unknown where the name came from.
The story obviously changed over time. In some versions Noshi took part of the woman’s grief, in others the fox did little more than lead her home, leaving the recovery to the introspection of the woman.
For generations, the story was passed down around Tsuwano. In Nana’s version, Noshi was sometimes linked to the fox messengers of the nearby Taikodani Inari Shrine (太皷谷稲成神社). Odd never discovered whether that detail came from Tsuwano or from Nana herself.
